What internet speed do you need for IPTV?
IPTV streams TV over your broadband, so the speed and stability of your connection decide how smooth the picture is. As a guide, each stream needs:
| Quality | Speed per stream | 2 screens | 3 screens |
|---|---|---|---|
| SD | 4–5 Mbps | 10 Mbps | 15 Mbps |
| HD / Full HD | 8–10 Mbps | 20 Mbps | 30 Mbps |
| 4K | 25 Mbps | 50 Mbps | 75 Mbps |
Speed is only half the story. A connection that jumps up and down – usually because of weak Wi-Fi – causes more buffering than a slightly slower but stable one. That is why our test also measures stability and ping (how quickly your connection responds).
How to get a better result
- Test on the device you watch on. A phone next to the router can show a very different speed from a TV in another room.
- Use Ethernet where you can. A wired connection is the single best fix for buffering. Firestick users can add a low-cost Ethernet adapter.
- Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi and keep the router out in the open, not inside a cabinet.
- Pause big downloads and game updates while you watch live sport.
- Restart your router every so often – it clears memory and often fixes sudden slowdowns.

IPTV speed test – frequently asked questions
How accurate is this IPTV speed test?
It measures real downloads from Cloudflare’s global network, which is similar to how IPTV streams reach you. Results change during the day, so if you see buffering in the evening, run the test again at that time.
Is 10 Mbps enough for IPTV?
Yes, 10 Mbps is usually enough for one HD stream if the connection is stable. For two screens or 4K you will need more – see the table above.
Why is my IPTV buffering when my speed test is fast?
The most common reasons are unstable Wi-Fi, other devices using the connection at the same time, or an older streaming device. Check the stability result above, try Ethernet, and see our buffering guide.
Do I need a VPN for IPTV?
No. A VPN is not needed for a licensed IPTV service, and it can lower your speed. If you use one, run this test with it switched on and off to compare.
Does the test use my mobile data?
The test downloads up to about 120 MB, depending on your speed. On mobile data, use the “enter it manually” option instead.
